Jerome sent a very nice text inviting us all to drinks for his birthday. It went something like this: "I have left it too late because I am a bit rubbish and - this is the most amazing bit - if you can't make it, it's my loss."
I wondered if he was feeling unwell or insecure when he wrote it but apparently he is mellowing in his old age. I can say that without being insulting because I am older than Jerome.
