A few days ago, I texted Jerome to ask if he would like to come to the pub. He replied (immediately of course, being one of the fastest texters that I know) to say that he had a friend coming round but thanks for the offer. I replied, "Have fun. Hope to see you soon."
Something about it felt odd. It seemed too polite. I am not used to talking to Jerome without insulting him (to get in first) or being insulted.

Priorities
Jerome denies that he has a pecking order of friends. He felt quite insulted by the suggestion.
This idea has been common currency among his friends from the Shire for a number of years and he has never taken the trouble to feel insulted.
QED.
