Clarence Clodpole visited Jerome at home last week and had a conversation with him during Hollyoaks.

Outclassed

A few years ago, I invited Jerome and Dan to have dinner with us in the Rabbit to celebrate my birthday. Jerome said he'd come, but warned me that England were in the final of the rugby that weekend and he might be a bit drunk. "A bit" proved to be an understatement; he was at the stage of drunkenness where his eyes become like a cloudy winter sky. Except it's not beautiful. Sports fans among you may remember that England won the rugby and naturally Jerome was delighted. He staggered round the pub, barely able to see, shouting "We won! We won!" pausing once or twice to say to me, very quietly "Happy Birthday, Marv!"

The King of Kebabs

While staggering around Birmingham in the early hours of last Sunday after Jerome's birthday, we eventually found a kebab shop at 4am, Jerome was disappointed, "not as good as king kebab" with wet eyes and trembling bottom lip coated in chili sauce lipstick. King kebabs had apparently shut a short while before.

While stumbling back to his house we passed the former buisness premises of King Kebab where a girl and her boyfriend were having a row. The Girl sank to her knees against the wall in floods of tears - Jerome, like a chivalrous knight of old walked up and said "I know, I was really upset too, but don't worry, I know it won't be the same, but there's another kebab house down the road".

Lovely stuff.

Happy birthday, Jerome

Jerome claims that some of the stuff on his previous blog was 'inflated'. I dispute this. This blog, like Jerome's reading choices, is strictly factual. Anyway, in Jerome's life, truth is definitely stranger than fiction.

Jerome attended the Moseley Folk Festival last weekend and a very fine event it was too. He liked The Destroyers but thought that most of the other bands were for geeks. He went on to the aftershow party but I didn't hear whether he liked it or not. Last year he liked it.
